Mariella Malefioudaki graduated in Chemistry (2021) from the University of Crete (Greece) and has a nine-month research internship at NOVA School of Science & Technology in Lisbon (Portugal). In 2023 she completed the Master in “Nanostructured materials for nanotechnological applications” (NANOMAT) at the University of Zaragoza. Her TFM under the supervision of Dr. Scott Mitchell and Dr. Rafael Martín, focused on the development of polyoxometalate-ionic liquids (POM-ILs) to prevent Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) as part of EuroMIC Cost Action CA20130. She has a contract as a CSIC predoctoral researcher to develop her PhD research at INMA. Her research will focus on improving the antimicrobial activity of POM-ILs and studying their ability to prevent MIC.
